In 2007, Screen International named Paul Wright as a UK ‘Star of Tomorrow’ following the success of his first short film, Hikikomori. Made whilst Paul was a student at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, the film won numerous awards, and was nominated for Best Short Film at the UK BAFTAs.

In the summer of 2008, Paul wrote and directed Believe, a short film produced by Rhianna Andrews (Young Films), with finance from Scottish Screen. The film won the Golden Leopard for Best International Short Film at the 62nd Locarno International Film Festival in August 2009. Paul is one of the writer/directors involved in the ‘Advanced Party 2’ scheme (Sigma Films/Zentropa Films).
