We are proud to announced that we have signed a world sales deal for Valdimar Jóhannsson’s buzzy supernatural drama LAMB (Dýrið) starring Noomi Rapace.
LAMB is a story of an Icelandic couple, María (Noomi Rapace) and Ingvar (Hilmir Snaer Gudnason), who live with their herd of sheep on a beautiful but remote farm. When they discover a mysterious newborn on their farmland, they decide to keep it and raise it as their own. This unexpected prospect of a new family brings them much joy, before ultimately destroying them.
The film marks Rapace’s return to Scandinavia following a number of successful English-language films, such as Sherlock Holmes, Prometheus and Bright.
The film is set up as an Icelandic-Swedish-Polish co-production. It is produced by Hrönn Kristinsdóttir (Summer Children, Angels of the Universe) and Sara Nassim at Go to Sheep in co-production with Piodor Gustafsson (Border, The Wife) and Erik Rydell at Black Spark and Klaudia Śmieja-Rostworowska (Mr. Jones, High Life) at Madants/NEM Corp. It is supported by the Icelandic Film Centre, Iceland’s Ministry of Industries and Innovation, The Icelandic National Broadcasting Service, Sena, Swedish Film Institute, Film i Väst, and Chimney Sweden and Poland.
The film was previously presented at NFTF’s Nordic Genre Boost, WEMW in Trieste, and Frontières Finance & Packaging Forum in Amsterdam.
Lamb was written by Jóhannsson and Icelandic author Sjón, who was nominated for an Academy Award for his lyrics in Lars von Trier’s Dancer in the Dark. With EFA Winning VFX Supervisor Peter Hjorth on board (Melancholia, Antichrist and Border) and production designer Snorri Hilmarsson (Woman at War) the film is set for a mid-2019 shoot and is expected to be completed in 2020.
