A WHITE, WHITE DAY THE NEW FILM FROM HLYNUR PÁLMASON THE DIRECTOR OF THE AWARD-WINNIG WINTER BROTHERS, WILL HAVE ITS WORLD PREMIERE IN CANNES SEMAINE DE LA CRITIQUE 2019.
A White, White Day is a confirmation that Pálmason is a visionary director and one of the top European names to watch. This time, in his tense drama he looks at an off-duty police chief who gets obsessed with the thought that his late wife might have been cheating on him.
The film will compete for 2 prizes given by La Semaine de la Critique’s Jury headed this year by Colombian filmmaker Ciro Guerra (Embrace of the Serpent, Birds of Passage): the Nespresso Grand Prize for best film and the Louis Roederer Foundation Rising Star Award for best actor or actress.
The French distributor of the film will also have the possibility to get the Gan Foundation Prize for Distribution that will support the French theatrical release of one of the 7 feature films in competition.
Pálmason’s first film Winter Brothers premiered in the main competition at the Locarno Film Festival in 2017, where it won four awards. The film went on to win over 30 awards worldwide, including nine Robert Awards and two Bodil Awards in Denmark. Hlynur Pálmason also won last year’s Dreyer Award for outstanding artistic achievement.
