Álvaro Gago was selected by Variety in 2019 as a Spanish talent to track and as a Star of Tomorrow by Screen International in 2021.
In 2017 he directed a short film “Matria”, which was a 2019 Goya nominee and received the 2018 Sundance Grand Jury Prize. His follow up short film, “16 de decembro”, premiered at the 2019 Locarno Film Festival and was also a Goya nominee in 2021.
He is currently working on his debut film “Matria” (titled like the short) which was part of the Berlinale Co-Production Market and has been developed at the TIFF Academy, La Incubadora or the MFI Script Lab.
