press quotes

The Love That Remains is an album of achingly felt, morbidly funny and increasingly haywire scenes from a marriage.”

– VARIETY BEST OF CANNES Critics Pick 17 Must-See Movies From the 2025 Festival

“Hlynur Pálmason’s close-to-home new dramedy documents a year in the life of a family following the parents’ separation.”

– LITTLE WHITE LIE

“What’s crystal clear is that The Love That Remains is a film by Hlynur Pálmason, an Icelandic directorial force who will invite you into his home, and at times pull the rug from right under your feet. But never so that it hurts; quite the contrary, in fact.”

– CINEUROPA

“The Love That Remains sticks out in Hlynur Pálmason’s filmography in the most delightful and unsuspecting way.”

“Pálmason demonstrating complete mastery over the medium through what feels like his most personal and daring film yet”

“The Love That Remains is incredibly playful and free-spirited, with a sense of magical realism as he captures the adventure, magic, and wonder in everyday moments through the intimacy that we share with our families.”
