New Europe is happy to announce the acquisition of Sonja Tarokić’s debut feature THE STAFFROOM that will premiere in Karlovy Vary Crystal Globe Competition.

The film follows Anamarija, who starts a new job as a counsellor in a school, which is a place full of petty conflicts and cliques. Initially she tries to stay out of the power games played by the headmistress, teachers and parents and just do her job with the children. But as she gets to know the system better Anamarija understands that in order to survive she has to sacrifice her integrity and play her own game in the staffroom.

It is produced by Ankica Jurić Tilić at Kinorama and was supported by HAVC – Croatian Audiovisual Centre, Torino Film Lab, MEDIA – CREATIVE EUROPE, RE-ACT and HRT. New Europe has worked with Kinorama before on Giornate degli Autori selected “Quit Staring at My Plate” and various co-productions.

Jan Naszewski said about the film: “The Staffroom is such a mature debut, which provides a great look at the complex structure of the school as a workplace, especially from a woman’s perspective. We were very impressed not only with the script and acting but also with the form that Sonja has found to tell this story.”
