Nina and the Goddess of Thunder’ Kicks Off Presales With French Deal

New Europe Film Sales has closed its first presale on upcoming 3D family animation “Nina and the Goddess of Thunder,” with French rights picked up by KMBO, the leading animation distributor behind such titles as “10 Lives” and “The Amazing Maurice.” New Europe expects to close more territories at Cannes.

With a production budget of €7.5 million, the film is the feature directorial debut of Kamil Polak, whose animated short “The Lost Town of Switez” was selected by the Berlinale and won the first film award at Annecy. Set in 10th century Poland’s primeval Białowieża forest, the film draws on Slavic mythology, following a rebellious young goddess who accidentally drops her father’s hammer and must team up with a local inventor named Nina to retrieve it before eternal darkness falls. It was written by Polish comedians Agnieszka Matan and Joanna Pawluśkiewicz.

Production is set to begin in 2027, with delivery planned for late 2029. The film is a co-production between New Europe and PFX (Poland), Fabrique d’Images (Luxembourg) and Doce Entertainment (Spain).
